I’m into my second term as a mentor at CoderDojo now, and loving it. The ninjas are great, and it’s awesome seeing them developing marketable coding skills while enjoying the hell out of it.
Special shoutout to my son Thomas and his friend Jack who spent last saturday building Make America Great Again in Scratch, which basically involved hitting Donald Trump in the face with tomatoes. Seeing them writing that while absolutely killing themselves giggling reminded me how coding can be (and should be) fun.
I’ve started a really quick project for CoderDojo Brisbane this week – an Arkanoid clone called Dojo Breaker (based on Block Breaker from gamedev.tv). The source will be up on GitHub so that any of the ninjas can clone and modify it, and I’ll improve it over time. Will be deploying to iOS and Android handsets, hopefully next week!
